“How do I obtain more leads for my business?” is this week’s burning question from our Powerhouse Speakers event. This is a fantastic question, but when we discuss leads, we must also discuss how to convert leads into sales, because leads are not sales. You can have all the leads in the world, but they won’t help you develop your business unless you turn them into sales. So many people attend networking events or obtain lead lists and then fail to follow up. Do you want to know why this is happening? I don’t feel deserving. So, how do you feel about yourself? That’s the first thing we want you to do for yourself: make sure you’re comfortable receiving. You must enjoy receiving payment for the services you provide. If you don’t feel worthy, you aren’t ready to sell and must first address this. We’re not going to talk about worthiness this week, but it’s worth mentioning when we talk about drawing leads…and making sales in your business.

Why Do People Make Decisions?

What drives us to succeed in whatever we do? There are two basic motivations for people to accomplish what they do: pain or desire. The pain appears to be a problem that has to be solved. “What’s In It for Me?” is a question that your potential clients must be able to answer. (WIIFM) People are uninterested in what you do or how you do it. They’re curious as to how you can assist them. What kind of issue do you deal with? What are the desires that you can fulfill? What can you do to assist them in improving their lives? When you understand how to communicate this to your leads, you’ll find it much easier to convert them into clients or customers. People aren’t interested in your company or program; instead, they want to know how to solve an issue or fulfill a need. Make sure your message is crystal clear – explain to them exactly what problem you can solve and how collaborating with you will make their lives better, easier, healthier, or more enjoyable. Let them know you care about their problems or objectives, and that you are prepared to assist them in achieving their goals.

Offer A Lead Magnet

We discussed how to transition our programs from FREE to FEE a few weeks ago. A lead magnet is a free offer designed to entice people to engage with you by attracting them to you like a magnet. A webinar, an ebook or pamphlet, a Top Ten List, a recording of meditation, or visualization, to mention a few, are all great lead magnets. Make whatever decisions feel right for you and your company. If you’re selling a tangible item, consider giving away a sample or a coupon. You want to provide them something for free in exchange for their name being added to your database, so you can assist them in becoming a client. “OK, Wagah, how long till I get paid?” you might wonder. Here’s where you’ll have to put in the most effort: in developing relationships. Between your free offer and selling them a paid program or product, take your time. It scares potential clients away when you hurry into selling to them without first creating a relationship. Continue to develop a solid basis to earn their trust. Remember how I said you should build on concrete rather than sand? Because they haven’t formed a trusting relationship with you yet, if you have a weak, soft base, they will fall off as soon as you start charging. Always remember that even if someone doesn’t wind up working with you, the relationship is still valuable: you’ll be the one they call if they have a friend or family member who needs your assistance.

Build Relationships

Spend time cultivating the relationship and laying that solid foundation. When you give them your paid program or product, they will be far more likely to respond “YES!” since you have gained their trust.
